RAPRD Program and Facility Changes Due to Air Quality

District Information on Air Quality:
Wildfire smoke is impacting air quality today. Please remember that children are particularly sensitive to smoke because their respiratory systems are still developing.

Parents: Please watch the smoke forecast and decide when to limit your child(ren)’s activities. We are monitoring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Air Quality Index (AQI).

If you do not wish for your child to spend time outdoors, please consider if the activity or program is the right choice for your family this week.

District Program Adjustments Due to Air Quality Concerns:

When the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Air Quality Index (AQI) data in Redmond is between 1-100 (Good and Moderate), recreation program operating status for outdoor activities will be at the discretion of facility managers and program coordinators.

AQI between 101-150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) will result in modified activities at reduced physical intensity and/or duration at the discretion of facility managers and program coordinators. For staff, outdoor duties will be modified with increased rest periods throughout time of reduced air quality.

AQI between 150-200 (Unhealthy to Hazardous) will result in cancellation of youth outdoor activities, including practices and games, that cannot be moved indoors. Youth outdoor activities that may be able to be relocated indoors may be adjusted in lieu of cancellation. Adult sport and fitness organized programs will be cancelled or moved indoors. 

For staff, outdoor duties will be modified with increased rest periods throughout time of reduced air quality if outdoor activities continue at the discretion of facility manager or designee.

AQI above 200 (Hazardous) will result in closure of all outdoor activities.
For staff, outdoor duties will be suspended and indoor only duties will continue in accordance with supervisor and work needs.

The following day or when AQI drops below 200, outdoor activities may resume to modified activities with facility manager and program coordinator approval.

We will do our best to keep you informed of the program status. We will notify program participants 1-2 hours prior to the start of a program is is is delayed, modified or cancelled due to smoke.  We will also post program changes on our website.
